Dog gone it

It has been a bitter sweet time right now, my husband and I have new house, we dreamed and fought to make it happen and one of the big things that make it a home was we have a large backyard for my dog, to wander and smell and rest and run. Sadly my beautiful basset hound Callahan had been diagnosed with lymphoma and we were lucky to share our house with him for his last month, and for that I am grateful.

I am also grateful for having that pup in my life for the past four years. He was a goofy, sweet, silly, and perfect dog for us. He came into my life when I started dating my boyfriend, a cute bonus for dating a renaissance man. My then boyfriend proposed,  6 months later and the prospect of this sweet little hound would be my adopted baby. My boyfriend who became my fiancĂ© and I lived a part for a year and a half. Me in NY missing them while they moved back to California. 6 months later I was reunited as we planned our lil family to be reunited the following year as I was to follow them to and move to California.

My year in California was ruff. I missed my friends and I was transitioning to trying to find work and planning a wedding. I became depressed and that sweet Basset with the expressive eyes gave me the will to get up out of bed and take him for endless walks, begin meeting people and other dogs at a local dog park and comforted me through finding myself in a new state. Petting his soft fur and talking to him in that voice I reserve for fluffy animals. I was healing. My husband and I came to a fork in the road with the increase of housing prices in California and my lack of work teaching, a house in which we both wanted was not an option. On one of our nightly walks with Callahan I spoke the harsh reality that we would never have a backyard for our sweet pup to have in his life time. This  got my husband thinking and we decided to roll the dice and move to Colorado.
We moved all of our stuff to go, moved it into an apartment, and then went to NY for our wedding, after that we got our dog in California and head out to our new future in Colorado. It worked out cause here we are both working in our fields and new home owners.

Id like to think it wasn't gentrification that got us here but a little Basset Hound that brought us to our current location. All I know is when ever I felt lonely,  stressed, scared or excited. I had that pup there with us, looking up at us to ask, well where to next. I not only like dogs but I love them and I have so many memories of this one because by chance he became mine. I refurred to him as the cherry on top in life. He has made me a crazy Basset hound lover. I know that he has made me happy and has left a huge impact on my life but my husband and I where talking about how we gave him an amazing life. He was a rescue dog that certainly was part of huge changes in both of our life's. West coast, East Coast and mid west that dog's life was a reminder to go with it and live life, rest, and keep fighting. I will dearly miss my fur baby more than even I can imagine, but he wasn't the lucky ones, we were for simply allowing him to steal our hearts, This post is a huge tribute to my lovely baby That I will hold in my heart.

In tribute I wear my favorite Bernie Dexter

Cherry Blossom Summer Breeze

Lets just say a lot has been going on the past few months which is why Its been a no mans land on my blog recently.

I had an art show to put together for my students and disassemble, award ceremony's, 5 of my students placed and one of my students artwork has been chosen to go on a gallery tour for Colorado!!!!!  I finished out a school year at my new school and I was super excited about all of that. To top it all off my husband and I have bid, bought, and moved into our first home together which we are slowly converting into a craftsman style house from a tri-level. Pictures are from our new porch. Exciting things have been a brewing these past few months, phew I'm exhausted already.

Also in sad news my Basset hound has been diagnosed with lymphoma so we are spending as much time we have with our little bubba.

So summer is on and Its been a little busy so far. Right before we moved in we have a cherry blossom tree in our backyard and it greeted us with lovely pink blossoms. After we moved in sadly the blossoms began to fall and I thought I'd wear this dress to say hello to summer, and inspiration was surely taken from that tree in my dress here. Cherry Blossom trees are so lovely and whimsical.

Got the dress from Modcloth it from their label and oh so cute.
Its called the Festive Fondescence Dress in Spring and you can find it here.

My whimsical shoes that don't match but in my quirky essence actually works with this dress is from Poetic license. I got them years ago at a cute shoe shop in Buffalo New York called Shoe Fly. Although these striped beauties are older unfortunately they are not longer on the site however you may be able to catch them on eBay or posh mark the name of the shoe is the right stripes in bright orange and pink.

How do you summer?- Fairfawn

50 Shades of Valentine

Ok so I'm not a fan of the book or the movie but I thought that was hilarious title considering I'm wearing all these valentines colors in this post.

So this was my valentine outfit the day and a day, before my husband and I went to a Bernie Sanders Rally and it was amazing!

Because of all the excitement, on Valentines day we kept it low key and I cooked a nice surf and turf with brussels sprouts and baked potato. I also made a cherry pie for dessert. I was a real Betty Crocker, It was soooooooo yummy.

Speaking of Yummy this wicker purse is delish!!!!!

We then ended the evening with the season premiere of the Walking dead because nothing says valentines red like bloody gore and zombies. For me, it was a perfect evening.

House Haunting

So my husband and I have been in the process of house hunting and although we are in the beginning process, I see it being a long haul ahead.

I however have been trying to keep my cool, when it comes to finding the "one" house to rule them all.

The market here is very fast paced and houses get listed and bam gone in some cases 24 hours.

It like chasing an invisible being.

I know that we will eventually get there.

.But there was this one house it might be a ghost house.

 It might haunt me.

ah the ghost house, like a real life Beetle juice.

Fall into winter

Im a fall girl naturally, so what I'm I going to wear in the winter?

Reminisce of fall that's what.

This fall dress looks like a water color stain, so I died twice over and had to have it.

I mean my favorite season and its artsy fartsy. Win! Win! is what I say

The weather here in Colorado Fluctuates and it pretty mild to the winters I grew up with in good ol' Buffalo.

Funny thing is two days after I took this pic it became 68 degrees out and today is like 55, all this glorious snow is gone and damn my dress are predicting the weather.

I wonder if I need a career change with my dress future weather readings.

ok I know I'm being a big nerd right now.

Look at this beautiful print up close. This dress is a Modcloth exclusive dress and I simply adore it.

I also adore snow covered boots.
