A Cat in Renaissance Clothing

It was brought to my attention one day that not only could my fiancé write, dance, sing, play piano, and fix cars, great conversationist but he also could paint. One day he told me he once won an award for painting a cat in renaissance clothing, I though maybe he's just trying to impress me. I found him super intriguing and fun at the same time. I name him my Renaissance man, so it seemed very fitting. I didn't know how talented he was until I saw this beauty for myself.

My Fiancé painted this at the tender age of 10. When I saw it I was floored. I had been an art teacher for quite a few years so I was really stoked to see his skill at such a young age and I adore this painting so much It resides in our dining room.  Because seriously guy's its a renaissance cat. This was created before Shrieks "puss in boots" and it sorta has his flair. How rich was that cat?
Um so the inner dwelling of his brain, is amazing to come up with this at age 10.

Another interesting fact, I've got a dress for that! Ha-ha of course I do.

I've had this cat portrait dress for a while. Its made by the brand Retrolicious. Check them out here.

They make amazing items to add to your wardrobe simply because the prints are quirky and fun just like my fiancés painting and just sorta like my sense of humor too.

So it was only natural that I was inspired to whip this dress out of the closet because I get to be inspired by it everyday at my dining room table.

Modcloth also sells this dress and a skirt version as well.

I got this dress on Modcloth and the name is adorable for it: Mew-seum Visit dress.

Tradition

Last weekend was a great weekend for tradition. I got to attend a very intimate ceremony for my new niece. She was having her Baby Naming Ceremony. We got to honor my new niece with tradition of her religion with family, and it was very lovely with, prayer, song, and words spoken of hopes for my new niece to carry with her through out her life. The day was simply beautiful with tearful remembrance of her family's tradition that was now being passed onto my niece. I left with a loving smile on my face for a simply wonderful day.

I wore a very special dress that I though was perfect for tradition. The dress I wore was a Bernie Dexter that has a print that reminds me of the Italian countryside in Italy.

It reminded me of my Father and Grandfathers land. It had a very similar landscape. Its like I could carry part of my own history on my dress in way. I know it sounded silly but we all carry our history's past with us internally so I just brought it with me externally.

I was brought up on a different religion than my niece but there is similarities in how family dynamics pass beliefs and how there is beauty in the connectivity of family.

Today is St. Joseph Day which is a day of feast which is an event my family celebrated each year. The feast part always got lost on me (food aversions). I really miss a simpler time in my life when on this day my mother and father would give me a whole bunch of Honey balls and Cannoli's.

I've clearly always had a sweet tooth. Each new generation brings fourth a new tradition and I guess that was mine. All I know is I really miss the tradition of feasting with my family and celebrations of events with my family here is an amazing way to continue tradition that no matter what religion you have is the ultimate way of creating feasts for the soul.

I feel very lucky to have two family's now which welcome many traditions but at its core, it all comes down to family. (That includes friends too) Cant wait to be reunited with my family on the other coast.

Friday Favorites #5

Well I don't know what it is maybe because spring and summer is approaching but I've been in the mood to wear skirts. So I picked out a few darlings I've been lusting over.

This Bernie Dexter skirt has cherry blossom trees. It so sweet my teeth hurt form just looking at it!
The Trixie skirt in Cherry Tree Lane print.

This Bernie Dexter skirt has Summer written all over it. I have such amazing memories of spending time with my family and my old dog sparky waiting for summer time food by the grill as my father was working hard to make us dinner. I think this one is nostalgic for me and every time I look at it I want to for my emotional connections purely. Trixie Skirt in Mid Century BBQ print

This Bernie Dexter is simply because I still want the dress version of this print, but I have always loved the look of snow. I just hated shoveling it. This print however takes all the physical stress out of the picture and leave you with the cozy imagery. Would I still wear this although for me its no longer winter? You bet you keyster I would. Hello Polly, I'll clean my room. In exchange for your immortal soul.

Growing up I loved watching anything horror and monster related. I especially loved old reruns of the Munster's and The Adams family which later found a new home on Nick at Night. However in the early 90's the T.V. series got a reboot in the form of a movie staring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia and Christopher Lloyd........but the real star of that movie was Christina Ricci portraying the role of Wednesday Addams. Especially in the sequel!!!

In the show the original character played by Lisa Loring had the cute factor with a twist, but in the movie Ricci elevated the role and created a cult classic character that was infamous for one liners of the macabre. I was probably the same age as her and I looked to her witty dark sarcasm as a voice for my inner dwellings of dark humor that I hadn't honed enough to release onto the world. Today on the blog my outfit choice is a homage to the Christina Ricci's Wednesday Addams portrayal.

I think Wednesday Addams was really a homicidal maniac, just locked in a cage in a form of a girl. I felt this dress encompasses just that.

This dress is by Folter/Retrolicious Clothing company  who has amazing novelty prints if you adore them as much as I check out the link.

Nothing says Wednesday Addams like a pointed peter pan collar.

One of my favorite Wednesday Addams quotes:
Gary: Now, one of you will be the drowning victim and the other one gets to be our lifesaver.
Amanda: I'll be the victim!
Wednesday: All your life.

Fun Fact: Wednesday's middle name is Friday! Also check out Melissa Hunter's Chanel on YouTube. She has a whole bunch of videos called Adult Wednesday Addams. They are hilarious.

Friday Favorites #4

I've got some new Friday favorites and boy are they cute!!!! They are from Modcloth. The first one has an adorable name, its called Ciao about that dress. They have a video up of this dress so you can see it in all of its cute lil dress glory.

Its really adorable and it has a nice modest front and it actually has a crisscross back which is pretty interesting. The print is darling, it has a street scape and it actually reminds me of the streets of Italy which I'm sure is part of the charming name that is a parody of that song "All about the bass" by Meagan Trainor.

The next dress I'm lusting after is surprise a landscape  tree/floral print but this one is darling.

It reminds me of Bernie Dexter's cherry blossom dress that is really hard to find however I find this to be a nice alternative to that dress. This one is called Marvelous Moonglow Dress. This is also on Modcloth.

My Bloody Valentine

Valentine's day, A day to spend with a loved one/or to treat the hell out of yourself!

I had never actually spent Valentine's day with an actual valentine until my fiance came into my life but I often remember it was always a great excuse to wear some red and buy some sweets for myself. I spoiled myself with a new year sale a while back and with the help of my followers on Instagram this dress was chosen to wear on my valentines festivities with my beau. In my last blog post I put the choice in the hands of my readers/viewers using the dressed app. Here is the winning outfit.

Thank you, my lovely darlings for choosing the dress I really wanted to wear! I had been waiting for the perfect moment to pull this dress out. I got it from Modcloth, Its called the Spectacle Spectacular Dress.

It is made by Voodoo Vixen which is a UK company that has amazing prints and vintage reproduction styles. I will be wearing one of their dresses on the blog soon so stay tuned. This dress is made of a nice strong cotton material and and the print is absolutely adorable.

This dress is pretty unique because of the crisscross chest design with black piping and it has pockets! I'm sucker for dresses with pockets because there is nothing sweeter than that. It is also in a fit and flair dress which makes my waist look itty bitty. The skirt portion is a circle skirt design that is perfect for dancing in.

This dress actually comes with a belt but I liked with without the belt for this occasion, but it would look really cute with the belt along with other accessories like a hat and gloves because you can take the girl away form the cold but you cant take a girl away from cold weather accessories. Am I right?

The shoes I paired with this are actually my Maryjane Clarks in black under their Indigo line. Clarks  heals, I swear are the most comfortable. They have taken up most of my shoe collection.

I also paired this outfit with one of my vintage wicker handbags because I simply adore it, and it goes with almost my whole wardrobe.

What will my valentine gear be?

Hey guys I need some help I have three Valentine's Day options but I'm not sure which dress to pick. I decided to use a lil help from my favorite app. I use the dressed app off of iTunes all the time.

It's pretty exciting and you can virtually plug in your whole wardrobe and search through your virtual closet to create outfits to wear. It's pretty cool because sometimes you'll look at your closet and wonder what should I wear to that event or meeting and POOF!, your covered because you figured it out on your commute or break prior to those events with this app.

This app is a life saver so I recommend it. It's pretty cool because you can plug in your accessories, shoes, bags, and even customize your mannequin. Now here's where I need your help.
