Jean Michel Basquiat

I got to go to a exhibit which featured Jean Michel Basquiat's journals, sketches, and a painting. It was an interesting exhibit because it was more documentary style that featured his work. It also had a video of him tagging. Jean Michel Basquiat was an artist in the 80's from Brooklyn. He had a street style that was symbolic for wealth vs poverty. It's pretty cool because his works messages can still ring true today with modern politics. I was fascinated with that fact.

This wasn't the first time I've seen his work but it was the first time I felt I could see within his head through his work.

The really cool part is Urban Decay Cosmetics has released a Jean Michel Basquiat makeup collaboration which is limited edition. Naturaly it was calling to me.

The collection has two eye palletes, a blush/highlight pallette, three lipsticks and three eye liners. I have the three palletes eye and cheek. The two eye shadow palletes are called Tenant and Gold Griot. Which one has more punk colors and one is more neutral colors definitely going with his style of art.

The covers have his art on the box and they even have a slot on the back that is made for hanging up on your wall for your own small scale gallery of his work.

Creating art for the masses when your done with the pallete. I say brilliant! The blush pallete is called gallery blush pallet.

Which is adorable. Ah when art becomes your own reality to create. It warms an art teachers heart.
