Move Over Marvel

Happy Halloween! This is my favorite day of the year! So in spirit of Halloween I've decided to do a costume post. This costume was inspired by the artist Roy Lichtenstein.

Roy Lichtenstein was an American pop artist during the 1960's. His artworks defined the basic premise of pop art through humor. His main inspiration was comic strips. His work was heavily influenced by both popular advertising and the comic book style. If you ever get a chance to see one of his beauty's up close, you will see the exquisite attention to detail. Its like you get to see a comic book page blown up where you can actually see the dots. Its amazing! Here are a few of his paintings:
Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923–1997), Head—Red and Yellow, 1962. Oil on canvas; 48 x 48 in. Collection Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY.

Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923–1997), Drowning Girl, 1963. Oil and synthetic polymer paint on canvas; 67 5/8 x 66 3/4" (171.6 x 169.5 cm)The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) New York, NY.

Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923–1997), Whaam!, 1963. Medium Acrylic paint and oil paint on canvas; (1727 x 4064 mm frame: 1747 x 4084 x 60 mm) Collection Tate (not on display).

So in the spirit of Halloween and Lichtenstein I had a perfect pairing that would make for great costume. I got this little number from Modcloth:

This dress is called "Good Enough to Eat Dress" and is made by a brand named Folter. I also would pair it with a purse I got from Dungaree Dolly. She has awesome vintage inspired bags with all sorts of prints so it was just meant to be that I had found both items in this print.
So I could pair these splendid prints together
for a wild comic book look.

However I needed to complete this look
oh yeah so I added a wig.
Now only if I could choose a pair of shoes?
Shoes:
(Yellow Pair) Resitricted / TJMaxx (older)
(Red Pair) Report / TJMaxx (older)

But lets face it my pup joined in, and his costume is so Pop Art it hurts. He's an Oldenburg soft sculpture!
Yep I went there.......What's your Halloween Costume Inspiration?

Just Desserts

Wayne Thiebaud is an American painter best known for his colorful works depicting objects, such as pies,  ice cream cones, pastries, and hot dogs. Lets just say that his art work is in my subconscious. Maybe its because I really like dessert and food in general.
(Wayne Thiebaud, "Cakes," 1963. National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C)

It seems that my inspiration for many things, including my wardrobe choices are drawn from art work. I find art to be a re-occurring theme in my life, may it be by my clothing choices or my esthetics in general, art is always an underlying connection for me.

Where does it all come from? Well I have spent the last 8 years of my life teaching art in public schools and a private art studio. It also stems back to my childhood experiences, as a child I created art and it never stopped. It continued into my life's passion on teaching others to enjoy art. It is no wonder that artistic imagery melts into my existence. The magic of art and the mundane of my daily life, are always intertwined.

So naturally when I saw this dress, I had to have it!

The print reminded me of Thiebaud's art work and I simply fell in love. I got it from Modcloth and its called "Your in luck dress in pie". Made by the company Bea & Dot.

I wore this delicious beauty recently. My fiancĂ© and I had the pleasure to volunteer as hosts to a car show at the veterans hospital for a family member. It was an awesome day filled with putting smiles on veteran patients faces as we showed and drove this 66' 427CI corvette string ray in a parade, bringing patients out of their beds to enjoy the cars of yesteryear. I thought nothing says "American pie" like a dress printed with pies. It was a great way to honor veterans and I felt really good about spreading the joy that day.
