Dizzy Rhythm

Last night my fiance and I went dancing, we have been taking dance classes where we are practicing our moves, we do a variety of different dances however my favorite is Swing. The twist, the turns, the rhythm, the dancing equivalence to a roller coaster. It can sometimes give me a case of the dizzies from the spins, but its exhilarating and I love it. So I thought about what to wear and it was easy.

I wore this little Cynthia Rowley number and it's a lot of fun because it has the movement of a swing dress. The print reminded me of Op art artist Bridget Riley.

       Descending, 1965
       Emulsion on Hardboard, 36x36 in.

Op art, also known as optical art, is a style art that uses optical illusions to give the impression of movement often using rhythm and pattern.

This dress was chosen to reflect not only my admiration of Riley's art, but the rhythm in the music, the dance and movement from the dress both visually and physically.

Friday Favorites

Here are some pieces I've been lusting over, since its Friday I'm going to give you my current favorites.

This little number is from Pinup girl clothing. Her name is Ava and she's a swing dress and I have a serious crush.  I'm obsessed with the color and the cut.

I also  have a crush on another girl her name is Jenny.
Her print is Harlequin in turquoise.

I also have a few separates from Modcloth that give me the butterflies.

But I'm saving my absolute favorites for last, These two are Bernie Dexter dresses and I am beside myself in their beauty. I have a few of her dresses they are really well made and I feel my loveliest when wearing them.  I'm obsessed and full blown in love with these two!!!!

This one is above is Jessica pin up dress in Happy Valley. I love the vibrant greens and am a sucker for landscape dresses. I even prefer a landscape dress to a landscape painting. Yes, you read that right from this art enthusiast.
This one another landscape dress that reminds me of my home, we just made the headlines in the news recently for getting a Snow-nado and Thunder-snow but my usual winters looked like the scene on this dress, although I'm not a fan of shoveling snow I do have a little warm place in my heart for look of the colder climate.  This dress is the Bernie Dexter Veronique Pin Up Dress in Winter Wonderland Print.

So what are your favorites? -Fairfawn

Petal Power

It may be fall but I saw this beauty today. As you may have guessed it......Inspiration struck.

My artist inspiration today is Georgia O'Keefe.
She made a lot of painting's but is best known for her large-format paintings of enlarged blossoms, presenting them close up as if seen through a magnifying lens. Some people see other things in her paintings however I see the fluttering elegance of curved form and she captured that oh so well.

Georgia O'KeeffeOriental Poppies, 1928 oil on canvas
30 x 40 1/8 in.
When I look at her artwork I see so much detail on the brush strokes that form the petals, When I got this little number I knew deep down in my subconscious it reminded me of O'Keeffe's work.

I got this dress for a steal at Target about a year ago. It is made by the designer Prabal Gurung. Although its no longer in target stores you can still find it on Ebay.

The ruffle petal like pieces of fabric flow with ease and feel airy when you move.

I paired this neon yellow dress with red because when you are wearing color, you are bold so I figured .....why not.
