Vintage Look for Less

I've wanted to do a post about getting a vintage look with out spending a lot of money. Since I'm sure lots of people got awesome deals this weekend and are still getting good deals.

I wanted to put a look together that was inspired by brands with larger price tags but pulling off a look at an affordable price year round when deals are not a plenty.

This look was inspired by larger price tag brands like Dita Von Teese, Miz Mooz shoes, and Pin up girl clothing.

I find a mix of things online when I got a really good coupon code because I usually sign up for all of my favorite shopping sites with my email.

I've  also been known to score amazing items from TJ Maxx and Marshals.

I find the hunt and the arranging of outfits a fun puzzle piece, and ties right in with my problem solving skills as an artist. So whatcha think? Let me break this one down into parts.

This is the Heidi Dress in Bright Blue form Pin Up Girl Clothing. It ussaly cost a $102.00 (on sale click on Heidi link)

This one  is similar and I got on Amazon its a Lindy Bop dress and cost me $40.

This is the infamous Dita Von Teese sweater that is absolutely beautiful but it comes with a hefty price tag of $190 on Wheels and Dollbaby. I cannot afford that so I look for alternatives.

I found this Cardigan for a steal at $7.99 on sale a few years back at forever 21. It has similarities in that it has embroidered design at the neck and has a tie right near the bust line. There are other similar Dita inspired sweaters on Modcloth and Banned apparel.

This belt I got at Marshals and I got it for $15, Its a Betsy Johnson.

I got these at TJMaxx for $20 the brand is called Report.

Out fit Details:
Dress: Lindy Bop/ Amazon
Shoes: Report/TJMAXX
Cardigan: Forever 21(older)
Belt: Besty Johnson/ Marshals

Cost of original items all together $431.00 (YIKES)
My alternative outfit: $82.99 (PHEW under $85)

Deals are where you find them. You can always find affordable alternatives without busting the bank.-Fairfawn

Book Nerd

I have known a few great books in my time. The ones I cherish are anything Poe, Shakespeare and of course the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series.

But I've also know some pretty bad arse amazing librarians. These are the gate keepers to imagination. The holders of knowledge and direction.  A field that is not dead because knowledge is power and these are the people that can whip up their wizardly know how and steer you in the right direction. So this post is very much my love letter to my favorite librarian that I know in real life.
She's a great friend, confidant and her brain amazes me with the amount of information she carry's and not only that but she's sweet, excepting and all around a blast to be around. I miss her very dearly.

I always felt like our wardrobes are twins and our style mirrors each other, as well as our sense of humor. So this outfit is very much inspired by her. Because simply knowing her I'd say her personality is a piece of art and her soul is the greatest library full of some of my favorite books and memories.

These boots are from Nine West and my librarian has an identical pair.

This amazingly book printed dress is a Modcloth exclusive and is bound to get many compliments.

Hey you Turkey

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I thought I wear the dress my husband likes to call the pilgrim dress.

Yes its true it does have a bit of modern day pilgrim to it but its a very versatile dress and I can wear it with a variety of shoes, cardigans and its so fall to me.

It is from Eshakti a year and a half ago, and was my second purchase with the company. The cool thing about it I was able to order it and adjust parts like add pockets.......

........past knee length and add 3/4 sleeve length.

so I guess in the end I'm the one who made it look more pilgrim like.

I paired it with a turkey brown heel that I got from payless.

The embroidery work is quite lovely and I do love the collar even if  its a little matronly.

Outfit details:
Dress: Eshakti (older)/ similar
Shoes: Aero for payless / similar

How are you celebrating Thanksgiving?-Fairfawn

Day of the Dead

Happy Day of the Dead.

Day of the Dead also known as Dia De Muertos, is a  Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico.

The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.

Often during this day, the dead are celebrated so the loved ones passed will not be forgotten.
I was talking to a co-worker and she was inspiring me when talking about her native celebration.
We spoke about how she honors her love ones that passed to keep their memory alive. She would take out loved ones pictures and make their favorite meals an visit their graves, their would be lit candles, music and decorations of sugar skulls and flowers.

If you ever lost someone, the thought of this is such a poetic way to celebrating the life of that love one. Some may think this is a morbid or sad holiday but personally think it is absolutely beautiful. What a wonderful way to celebrate our ones who have passed to create a time to continue to breath life in their honor.

Today I celebrate my father. He was a hard worker, but loved to dress up and always loved to dance. I feel I celebrate him everyday in continuing those traits into my daily life. However I wore this dress today and I.........

put on some dancing shoes........and will continue to keep dancing through life for those who cannot and celebrate the joys of life with every little step.
