In Bloom: Part 1

My husband is the absolute best! He surprised me a visit here!

The exhibit was called In Bloom and it had French and Dutch Impressionist artist portraying still life's and the subject matter was all flowers. Hence In Bloom.......believe me it was Nirvana for the eyes.

I had no clue where he was taking me because there was a festival in the city and he said he wanted to check that out........well we park and walk from the parking garage. I look ahead and saw this............

Oh you know just some Claus Oldenburg hanging out. So naturally I freak out because I've taught with this piece in my classroom in the past. I start running towards it because nothing lights up my world like a fuse box when I see outside art.

I've seen a lot of his work in various city's and I my heart still races. Its true love guys. I mean that of course in two ways. Haha

Here is some of the exhibit below:

This exhibit also had a sensory part in which there was these little air freshener's that has various scents of flowers which was great when smelling them and viewing the art works.

What a lovely day I even got time to fool around and look at Denver's art museum collection. Ill have an outfit completely inspired by this exhibit so stay tuned for my next post.

The Nike Awaken

The Winged Victory of Samothrace
circa 220-185 BC
Samothrace
Parian marble for the statue and gray Rhodian marble for the boat and base
total H. 5.57 m
Paris, Musée du Louvre

She is also known as the Nike, in which Nike brand of shoes was named after.

I will see this sculpture before I die.

She resides in The Louvre in Paris, I hear she is mighty at nine feet tall and that's not counting the base. I've always felt inspired by this piece as a symbol for strength in femininity. So today she is my inspiration behind this outfit of the day.

When I wear a dress I too feel strong and feminine at the same time. I feel its my armor. I feel beautiful, inviting and strong. I feel like my insecurities that may linger from time to time vanquished. There is a reason why this sculpture stands for victory. It has inspired me to feel victorious within my own skin.

I have sculpted in various mediums myself but have never touched marble, and the movement in her dress , simply amazes me. The skill and talent to carve out something made of stone but to make it look so delicate and flowing as if it is alive is just part of the magic that art can bring. That juxtaposition between hard surface but soft to look at is exactly the mind blowing.

I think it can be paralleled to how I feel empowered as a woman. I believe every woman can have a soft side and a strong side and I think both can exist equally.

So thank you Nike for being that visual representation of that feeling. This dress also made the flow of the fabric become the essence of soft, but today I felt incredibly strong in it.

Friday Favorites #6

Mary Blair was artist who was known for producing art and animation for The Walt Disney Company.  She created concept art for a lot of their films and character art as well for Disney exhibitions and theme parks.

She was a Woman that worked in a male-dominated field. She created the concept art to many of our favorite Disney movies like Cinderella and Peter Pan.

My Favorites that I'm lusting for are actual dresses made by Pin Up Girl Clothing, and skirts are made with Mary Blair prints. They teamed up with the Mary Blair estate to create beautiful pieces that holler back to yesteryear, and I love it!  My favorite of the of the collection is defiantly Aurora Dress in Mary Blair Train Border Print.

It even comes in a Skirt version too!

Check out more from this wonderful collection known as The Magic of Mary Blair  Collection on Pin Up Girl Clothing.

Garden Growth

                                                  This dress is absolutely darling!

Sometimes a dress comes into your life and it gives you comfort, style and is actually flattering.

This dress had me at hello. It is a Voodoo Vixen dress and it goes by the name of Tilly.

I wore it for my family dinner for my wedding and I was feeling amazing.  I felt beautiful in it and that in my opinion is a reason to own this dress.

I also got a lot of head turning and actually got a few compliments from strangers when I wore this. Compliments are always a plus but feeling confident is a must.

Look at this print!

Oh and a shoe close up of course.

Dynamism of a Dog

One of my favorite paintings when I was a little girl was Dynamism of A Dog on a Leash (1912) by Giacomo Balla, it resides in the Albright Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo New York.

This Futurism painting depicts the wonderful movement of dogs, and I've been a animal lover since I got my beloved Vizsla; Sparky at the tender age of 5 , there is very rarely a dog I don't automatically love. Don't get me wrong I love a good kitty or two .......or three. There is defiantly something with in my soul that turns to sunshine jelly and gets all melty by the time I see a dog.
I mean I even have this hanging in my house to honor my sweet son !!!!!!

Painting below by Tyler Adams

I will call all dogs puppies. Giant Great Danes, Boxers, even 10 year old Maltese's. Even my 8 year old basset hound fur baby is still a puppy in my eyes. He is the cutest isn't he?

Little known fact my pup has been published in an art project called Project Dog by Kira Stackhouse.

Balla's painting was the first art that had a dog as the subject matter that I'd ever seen so it is imbedded in my soul because lets face it I'm a dog lover and the influence came to me at a young age. Being that I'm a dog lover its only natural that, yes I've got an inspired out fit for celebrating that trait within myself.

This dress is a Bernie Dexter and is a fit and flare circle skirt swing dress.

Oh look its my moms little pup!!!! She's a Jack Russell Terrier and is soooo cute!

I mean  come one you didn't expect me to not have a dog in this post right?
