Baroque China

The days draw closer to my wedding and the stress levels are high, I feel like I could break.

Lets be real thou I think everyone goes through this moment in time if they choose to get married where the time of getting everything in order feels like a ticking time bomb.

I recently just moved to a new state so throw that on top of a wedding, KA-BOOOOOMMMM!

I'm looking forward to it just being a few days before and really being in the set mind of it playing itself out so the planning part gets set aside and I can take a step back and relax and enjoy the big day

Since I've been on edge lately and feeling like fragile fine china, This dress was a perfect fit.

This dress is a Bernie Dexter dress and I got it a while back when it was on Modcloth.

It has a print that is a cross between old Baroque wall paper and fine china.

I don't normally wear white, ironically I will be wearing a lot soon, but there was something about this dress that I loved. Bernie Dexter has another dress in this print in a different style on her website this cut and style in this print is discontinued.

WAIT!!!!!WHAT!!!!! ---------A Puppy Break!

Ha ha see I can still find humor even thou I'm stressed.

Home Sick

I just recently had my bridal shower thrown by my sister, my bridesmaids and help form my mom. It was a lovely day full of love and support from my family and friends.

I cant help but feel loved. I really enjoyed the time spent home. Its funny how when you move away from home you find your thoughts always grounding you back to a place and time and the stillness of where you were and where you are now are deeply contrasted.

Don't get me wrong I will always feel like where I grew up will forever stamp a place inside of me because I feel it has shaped who I am in a lot of ways and I think we always feel connected to that place.

Things felt a little different but to feel different in a familiar place is strange. Home looks the same, smells the same, some reside there and some are now gone but I felt different now being away for a while.

I now know that I will feel home sick as my heart is divided into two spaces. One being my home where my family and friends reside and the new home I have made with my fiancé.

I've seen the movie Garden State quite a few times and there was a dialogue between the characters Andrew and Sam. I finally know what they mean now.

Andrew Largeman: You know that point in your life when you realize the house you grew up in isn't really your home anymore? All of a sudden even though you have some place where you put your shit, that idea of home is gone.

Sam: I still feel at home in my house.

Andrew Largeman: You'll see one day when you move out it just sort of happens one day and it's gone. You feel like you can never get it back. It's like you feel homesick for a place that doesn't even exist. Maybe it's like this rite of passage, you know. You won't ever have this feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for your kids, for the family you start, it's like a cycle or something. I don't know, but I miss the idea of it, you know. Maybe that's all family really is. A group of people that miss the same imaginary place.

There is one thing that I do know to be true as I embark to create a new home in my future is that feeling of home purely exists in the people you invest your time and patience to.

No matter how much time and space elapses you wish and hope the best for people who come in and out of your life and the connections you make will always be inside of you.

Maybe with that you carry Home with you.

This dress is from eShakti.

I felt that this dress fit perfect for my realization of home. There are two birds free as the other birds reside on their perched wire and they are there to keep these free birds grounded. Symbolic is what I do sometimes so here it is in this post.

eShakti is great because you can custom make your dresses and tailor them perfectly to your fit and even alter the design.

I felt really beautiful in this dress but really it felt more beautiful to take in my short time and just appreciate what I do have in the aspects of all facets in my life. I feel extremely lucky.

A Cat in Renaissance Clothing

It was brought to my attention one day that not only could my fiancé write, dance, sing, play piano, and fix cars, great conversationist but he also could paint. One day he told me he once won an award for painting a cat in renaissance clothing, I though maybe he's just trying to impress me. I found him super intriguing and fun at the same time. I name him my Renaissance man, so it seemed very fitting. I didn't know how talented he was until I saw this beauty for myself.

My Fiancé painted this at the tender age of 10. When I saw it I was floored. I had been an art teacher for quite a few years so I was really stoked to see his skill at such a young age and I adore this painting so much It resides in our dining room.  Because seriously guy's its a renaissance cat. This was created before Shrieks "puss in boots" and it sorta has his flair. How rich was that cat?
Um so the inner dwelling of his brain, is amazing to come up with this at age 10.

Another interesting fact, I've got a dress for that! Ha-ha of course I do.

I've had this cat portrait dress for a while. Its made by the brand Retrolicious. Check them out here.

They make amazing items to add to your wardrobe simply because the prints are quirky and fun just like my fiancés painting and just sorta like my sense of humor too.

So it was only natural that I was inspired to whip this dress out of the closet because I get to be inspired by it everyday at my dining room table.

Modcloth also sells this dress and a skirt version as well.

I got this dress on Modcloth and the name is adorable for it: Mew-seum Visit dress.

I know what your thinking, I thought you were a dog person but I love all the furry friends.

Tradition

Last weekend was a great weekend for tradition. I got to attend a very intimate ceremony for my new niece. She was having her Baby Naming Ceremony. We got to honor my new niece with tradition of her religion with family, and it was very lovely with, prayer, song, and words spoken of hopes for my new niece to carry with her through out her life. The day was simply beautiful with tearful remembrance of her family's tradition that was now being passed onto my niece. I left with a loving smile on my face for a simply wonderful day.

I wore a very special dress that I though was perfect for tradition. The dress I wore was a Bernie Dexter that has a print that reminds me of the Italian countryside in Italy.

It reminded me of my Father and Grandfathers land. It had a very similar landscape. Its like I could carry part of my own history on my dress in way. I know it sounded silly but we all carry our history's past with us internally so I just brought it with me externally.

I was brought up on a different religion than my niece but there is similarities in how family dynamics pass beliefs and how there is beauty in the connectivity of family.

Today is St. Joseph Day which is a day of feast which is an event my family celebrated each year. The feast part always got lost on me (food aversions). I really miss a simpler time in my life when on this day my mother and father would give me a whole bunch of Honey balls and Cannoli's.

I've clearly always had a sweet tooth. Each new generation brings fourth a new tradition and I guess that was mine. All I know is I really miss the tradition of feasting with my family and celebrations of events with my family here is an amazing way to continue tradition that no matter what religion you have is the ultimate way of creating feasts for the soul.

I feel very lucky to have two family's now which welcome many traditions but at its core, it all comes down to family. (That includes friends too) Cant wait to be reunited with my family on the other coast.

Friday Favorites #5

Well I don't know what it is maybe because spring and summer is approaching but I've been in the mood to wear skirts. So I picked out a few darlings I've been lusting over.

This Bernie Dexter skirt has cherry blossom trees. It so sweet my teeth hurt form just looking at it!
The Trixie skirt in Cherry Tree Lane print.

This Bernie Dexter skirt has Summer written all over it. I have such amazing memories of spending time with my family and my old dog sparky waiting for summer time food by the grill as my father was working hard to make us dinner. I think this one is nostalgic for me and every time I look at it I want to for my emotional connections purely. Trixie Skirt in Mid Century BBQ print

This Bernie Dexter is simply because I still want the dress version of this print, but I have always loved the look of snow. I just hated shoveling it. This print however takes all the physical stress out of the picture and leave you with the cozy imagery. Would I still wear this although for me its no longer winter? You bet you keyster I would.
